A “true blue” track for athletes in Hannover
The athletic hall of the competitive sport centre in Hannover shines in new splendour. During renovation, the sport and leisure floor covering manufacturer BSW from Bad Berleburg, installed a re-topping synthetic surface made of their product Regupol AG/RC on top of the existing surface, providing both amateur and competitive athletes with a top performance track.
The re-topping with Regupol AG/RC involves the existing synthetic floor covering being given a new wearing surface. This guarantees a rapid and inexpensive solution without the time and cost-consuming installation of the basic substructures. In a pre-examination it can be determined whether the existing surface is suitable for re-topping. Properties of the existing surface, such as load capacity and tensile strength, must be suitable to form a good substructure. Before the sport centre in Hannover could be given its new floor covering, the complete surface area of the old floor surface - a total of 3.800 mē - underwent a necessary careful preparation. In a first step the wearing surface of the old floor was smoothed with an abrasive and cleaned. A special priming agent was then applied followed by a self-flowing, seamless PUR coating in which coloured EPDM granules were strewn. Using a colour scheme to distinguish the different sport facilities, the planning au-thorities of the regional capital Hannover chose a version with light and dark blue granules including the corresponding line markings carried out by BSW. In the course of this work the sprint tracks lo-cated in the middle of the hall were extended from six to eight lanes. A special feature of this particular sports hall is the retractable round track which satisfies all DIN and IAAF requirements. The main challenge here was to limit the covering to exactly those areas bordered by the openings for the retraction procedure. BSW applied the re-topping very accurately to form an optically perfect result.
Regupol AG/RC – high-quality renovation, little outlay
Regupol AG/RC can be used to achieve a high-performance result without time and cost-intensive new construction work. The surface is characterised above all by its resistance to running spikes, dura-bility and anti-slip properties. On request, BSW offers floor covering with the wearing surface in different colours. Accurate application of the covering allows cleanly delineated coloured spaces which can be used to divide and define different areas. Examples are the definition of single track lanes, throwing take-off areas, run-up tracks and relay changeover zones.
