BSW installs and refurbishes further Regupol tartan tracks at Jamaica

In 2011, a new Regupol tartan track will be installed at Kingston National Stadium. Recently, the Jamaican information minister Daryl Vaz conveyed this in a press conference. The new construction of the athletics track became necessary as the existing surface, installed from another manufacturer, wore out after only a few years, and therefore unable to fulfil IAAF requirements. By the middle of November 2010, BSW started the installation process of the new Regupol tartan track. In addition, BSW repaired the running track at the adjacent training stadium. After the successful installation of the blue Regupol tartan track at Usain Bolt’s training facility (at the University of the West Indies), BSW has secured two more projects in Jamaica.

The surface of Kingston’s new Regupol tartan track will be also blue – as a reminder of the phenomenal world records of Usain Bolt which he set on the blue Regupol tartan track at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. The new athletics track at Kingston National Stadium, which covers an area of about 8,000 square metres, will receive the IAAF Class 1 Certificate, thus ensuring that the track is suitable for international competitions as well as for new records. In the future, the Jamaican Invitational Meet in Kingston will be an official IAAF event.

Starting from 2011, the two most important athletics tracks in Jamaica are made from Regupol tartan. According to Peter Breuer, export director at BSW GmbH, the two jobs came about primarily because of the successful experience which the Jamaican athletes have already made with the blue Regupol tartan athletics track at the training facility of the University of the West Indies (UWI). Additionally, Breuer also said that the Jamaican sports ministry was convinced by BSW’s fast and trouble-free installation process at the UWI facility.

The new Regupol tartan track will be installed in February 2011.
