Keraflex® FB

Installation instructions

The components
Keraflex® FB consists of:               Optional accesories:
• Rubber base panels                      • Rubber starter elements
• Ceramic tiles                                   • Drainage grid / channel
• Keraflex® adhesive                         • Metal grid for floor drains
• Butyl rubber adhesive tape           • Perforated edging corner
Preparing the surface
Check the surface, remove any loose fragments and apply filler to any larger holes and uneven patches until the surface is smooth and flat. Eliminate any cavities. Sweep clean. We recommend producing a gradient in the sub-base to improve drainage. Avoid any protrusions at the water drainage points.

Apply rubber-compatible plastic sealing sheeting (e. g. Wolfin IB / Wolfin GWSK or similar) or liquid sealing. The sheeting should not overlap by more than 1.5 mm.

It is easier to compensate for uneven patches in the surface by trimming the underside of the rubber Keraflex® FB base panel (using an electric trimming tool).
Fitting and adhering the base panels
Installation Base Panel Keraflex FBFit the rubber base panels of Keraflex® FB, working in the direction of the gradient and when the weather is dry with a minimum temperature of approx. 5°C. Prevent the base panels from slipping by fixing them with butyl rubber tapes under each row of panels. It is advisable to use butyl rubber tapes also for surfaces with an all-round border. Start to fit the panels by placing them in line in the direction of the joints (possibly using a plumb line).

Position the base panels in line, beginning at the front edge. When beginning with whole tiles, use the prefabricated rubber starting element to position the base panels accurately. Continue to fit the base panels, making sure that a uniform joint pattern is created. Depending on the geometry, it is advisable to do a "dry" run in advance on a partial area to create a uniform joint pattern.

The base panels can be cut to size easily using an electric jigsaw (with a coarse, straight-set saw blade). In principle it is advisable to use stainless steel edging corners.

Fit the edging corners with a force fit (adhered or welded etc. depending on the surface) so that they reliably absorb any shearing forces that occur. Where applicable, it is advisable to fix them to the guardrail posts (or similar), depending in local conditions.
Fitting and adhering the tile
Application Keraflex GlueThe supplied stoneware tiles are adhered step by step in the recesses of the base panels. To do so, apply adhesive in cross-wise stripes with additional interim spots. Consumption rates: onc cartridge of Keraflex® adhesive is sufficient for approx. three base panels, i. e. for 24 tiles. It is advisable to use an air gun for larger areas.

Fit metal grids / drainage channels where appropriate.
