- Safety surfacing like playfix® looks "unnatural" because it is very colourful and it is not made of natural materials such as sand or wood. Is this why playfix® should only be used in certain areas?
1) Why are there large price differences for the different EPDM colours?
The reason for this is the following: When some EPDM colours are used, we recommend using a binding agent that is as UV-resistant as possible. This is more expensive than the "standard" binding agent that can be used for colours such as red, all grey tones, beige, black etc.
| Citrus Yellow | Light Grey | Rainbow Blue | Violet |
It is not absolutely necessary to use a binding agent that is highly UV-resistant; however we do press upon you to do so. If a standard binding agent is used, the EPDM layer will discolour very quickly. The flaking of the micrometer-thin binding agent layer can take up to 1 1/2 years. If used normally, the original colour will reappear within the first 6 months, however only in those areas where it is actually used. On the edges, which are hardly used or not used at all, the discoloration can be visible for up to 1 1/2 years. This means that the surface appears “grubby” and does not look attractive.
2) In what condition should the subbase be for the seamless safety flooring?
The subbase must comply with the standard DIN V 18035 – Part 6.
To put it simply: a bound or non-bound base layer
Special care should be given to ensuring that the sealing is stable and non-slip (evenness below the 4-m-aiming stake: +/- 10 mm)
3) Why is there no price list for playfix®?
The price of playfix® primarily comprises 4 factors:
• Where is the object?
• How large is the area (square metres)?
• What fall height needs to be covered?
• What colour is to be fitted?
It is not possible to issue a price list which can take all 4 factors into account. Therefore, the price will always depend on the specific object.
4) Should plain or multicolour surfaces be installed?
We generally discourage fitting multicoloured surfaces. The reason for this is that the dirt on the surface of “spotted” surfaces is not as visible.
5) How does the edge area for playfix® need to be designed?
The edge area for playfix® should have a border of edge stones (ideally a Regupol® edging). The clearance between the upper edge of the edge stone and the upper edge of the surface should correspond to the total thickness of playfix®. This means that our flooring is “flush” with the surrounding edge stones.
6) What is the maximum fall height that playfix® can cover?
The maximum fall height that playfix® can cover is 3.00 m. The structural thickness then totals 100 mm.
This comprises a 90 mm base layer and a 10 mm EPDM-top layer.
7) What does the weather have to be like so that playfix® can be installed?
To lay a seamless safety flooring, you need temperatures above 10 °C. Also, it is not possible to lay playfix® in the rain or when rain is expected, as the binding agent will react too quickly and the surface will suffer permanent damage.
8) How can I obtain a viewing sample?
You can design your seamless impact protection floor from a total of 25 Colours.

9) How can the seamless surface be cleaned?
In the case of normal soiling, the surface can be cleaned using a high-pressure cleaner (without a rotating jet nozzle). For more extensive cleaning instructions in a PDF file, please click here.
Whether playfix® looks "natural" or "unnatural" is up to you. We can show you colour mixes that can be subtly integrated into natural-like surroundings. The surface can be made to look like earth, sand, forest soil or grass. Also, there is an elastic layer from playfix® made of natural rubber, which is a renewable raw material.
